This is a scale model of Otrar city. It is located on the first floor of the Al-Farabi city Scientific and Universal Library. And the composition on the wall depicts a view from the space of Otrar city and Oksyz settlement
Otrar is widely known as the capital of the region where the great medieval thinker Abu Nasr Al-Farabi was born. In general, archaeologists date the origin of the Otrar city to the 1st century B.C. According to the records of ancient chronicles, the territory of Otrar was 200 hectares. There were houses decorated with various beautiful ornaments and each district had names characteristic to their residents. For example, the jewellers lived in Altyntobe, gunsmiths lived in Pyshaktobe, butchers lived in Kuyryktobe. According to archaeological research, the Otrar city had a strong fortress capable to defend from any enemy, three gates with a depth of about two meters and a width of ten to fifteen meters, equipped with hanging bridges over the water pit.
